Check presentation to the Clark Park Coalition

2010 Outdoor Classic: The Last Chapter

Earlier this year, Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood played Detroit Catholic Central in the 2010 Outdoor Classic at historic Clark Park in Detroit.  The game was held to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the first game between these two storied programs.  The first four objectives of this event were to:

  1. Have fun in a great hockey tradition at a great location in the City of Detroit
  2. Promote Michigan high school hockey
  3. Promote Detroit Catholic Central and Cranbrook Kingswood  schools and their respective hockey programs
  4. Promote the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League

These objectives were met.

The fifth objective was to benefit Clark Park and the Clark Park Coalition.  That objective was met Wednesday between periods of the Ck – Trenton hockey game at the Wallace Ice Arena.

Cranbrook Co-Captains Patrick Brown and Kevin Collon presented a check to the Clark Park Coalition.  The amount of the check, $6,500, includes cash donations, services, hockey equipment, facilities maintenance and repairs to the Clark Park ice arena and equipment.

Anthony Benavides, Clark Park Director, and his staff accepted the check on behalf of the Clark Park Coalition.

Rick Loewenstein, CK Alumnus and General Committee Chairman, summed it up, “It all came together – Clark Park, the weather, the alumni, the organizers, the volunteers, the on-site vendors and the sponsors.  We met all of our objectives: Everyone connected with the day had a good time.  The tradition and excellence that is Michigan high school hockey was on display.  Both schools and Clark Park gained tremendous media exposure, up to the national level.  We couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.”
